Keep Your Kids Safe With 360 SportScapes

Keep Your Kids Safe With 360 SportScapes
In our last blog we discussed the benefits of having a backyard sports court in regards to your health. If you happened to miss that click here:
Today we are going to discuss how having a 360 Sports Court in your home or yard increases the safety for your kids. So Mom’s… listen up!

Imagine its a warm Saturday evening in the summer. You have cleaned up dinner and the kids disappeared an hour ago to go play with their friends after dinner. Your oldest idolizes the Celtics and your youngest idolizes the oldest so you know they are off with their friends playing a game of H.O.R.S.E. with Johnny down the street. It’s getting darker and darker outside and you feel the first twinge of worry. Your partner calms you down. An hour passes. No kids have come tumbling into the house. Another hour.
Now you are in a full blown panic. Every parent knows the feeling. That heart dropping to the floor feeling when your kids don’t come home when they’re supposed to or when one of your kid’s friends comes running in to tell you they are hurt and you have to run to the park dreading the worst.

Now imagine that same warm Saturday evening in the summer. Dinner is done and the kids disappeared an hour ago to go play with their friends. You check the time because it’s starting to get dark. You look outside and there they are, dribbling the ball. Your oldest teaching your youngest how to do a layup on your backyard basketball court.

Raising kids in this day and age is not easy. A parent has to battle with their children with too much screen time and yet balancing that with not feeling secure that you don’t know where your children are, because apparently it’s not “cool” to text your parents every hour. At 360 SportScapes it is our goal to get the kids off the tablet, get outside and get moving all while helping their parents feel confident that their children are safe.

We don’t need to list out statistics about your children’s safety when it comes to strangers, just tune in to your favorite true crime podcast. We won’t dive into it but about 2,100 missing children reports are filed every day in the U.S. and no parent needs to go through the living nightmare of not knowing where their children are. Instead of your kids riding their bikes down to the park we recommend installing a (mini) soccer field made of highly durable and low maintenance artificial turf in your backyard. Or maybe your children love to ice skate, we can help with that too.

With your 360 SportScape you not only will have your children playing safely in your own backyard but you will also be available should any sports related injury occur.  Decrease the chances of sports related injuries by taking the hoop out of your cement driveway and installing your own backyard basketball court. 360 SportScape’s tiles are shock absorbent and gentler on falls than asphalt and concrete. Our backyard courts are made to be comfortable on joints and reduce the impact of falls.

More than 170,000 children ages 5 to 14 were treated in hospital emergency rooms for basketball-related injuries, 88,000 children were treated for soccer related injuries and 110,000 children were treated for softball and baseball injuries. Should an injury occur you can rest assured that you are available to your child as soon as possible when they are playing sports at your residence.
We are parents too, which is why it is so important to us to protect future generations while still allowing them to participate in the sports they love. Our dream is for parents to rest comfortably at night knowing their children are safe in their own backyard while also participating in the sports they love. At 360 SportScapes we build our multi-sports courts with the family in mind. We don’t want to just morph your landscape, we want to help you build a community focused on health, safety, and security.

How Having A Backyard Sports Court Can Improve Your Health

It’s no secret that we are big sports and exercise enthusiasts. We love a good neighborhood game of pick- up or H.O.R.S.E., but our love goes deeper than just the game. Playing a quick game in the backyard with your friends isn’t just fun, but it also is keeping you and your family healthy. Whether your sport is tennis, golf, pickleball, hockey or basketball playing for just 30-60 minutes is improving every aspect of your life.

Backyard Athletic Courts Can Help Increase Physical Activity

Obesity is a known epidemic in our country but you may not know that physically active children are 1/10 as likely to be obese. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children are 40% more likely to score higher on their test scores, 15% more likely to go to college, make 7-8% higher annual funds, have lower health costs, and are at reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes. Children are spending more time in front of their phones than they are outside playing with their friends and this is causing a nationwide health crisis. At 360 SportScapes we believe in giving everyone an outlet to make them happier and healthier. Backyard basketball courts and batting cages are ideal ways to get your kids out of the house and get them exercising! Pickleball and putting greens are a great activity if running and jumping are not comfortable for you anymore.

360 Sports Courts Are Gentle On Joints

Studies show that less than 5% of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Having the convenience of a sports court in or near your home can help you stay active and healthy. All our courts are made with your safety, comfort, and playability in mind. Research shows that the shock absorbing tiles of a 360 Sports Court are significantly less damaging than cement. Jumping, running and falling are all apart of any good basketball game and our courts protect against concussions and other serious injuries. Our tennis courts and pickleball courts are made with the same shock-absorbant floor, so no matter what age you are, you can play a stress free game.

So get out, get moving and have fun! Whether you are 3 or 90 or any age in between, having a basketball court, tennis court, batting cage, or putting green in your home or business will help you play safely and comfortably.

Designing A Backyard Basketball Court

If you have been following our recent blog posts, you know that there are a variety of benefits of installing a backyard basketball court. From pick-up games to endless matches of P.I.G., a backyard basketball court has a certain appeal that brings families and people of all ages together to bask in the sunshine and shoot some hoops.

If you are considering backyard basketball court installation, there is a lot that goes into the process. To make basketball court installation stress-free, it’s better to hire an experienced sports court contractor rather than attempting to build a D.I.Y. backyard basketball court. When you work with a sports court contractor, you will not only be left with a high-quality backyard basketball court, but you will also have the ability to design your court to fit your needs and specifications and add any features and accessories to make your court your own.

Steps For Designing The Best Backyard Basketball Court

At 360 Sports and SynGrass, we have years of experience helping homeowners with the design and installation of backyard basketball courts. Our team of sports court contractors work closely with our clients to provide them with a custom basketball court that fits their needs, specifications, and budget. As you prepare for basketball court installation, consider the steps to design the perfect court for you and your family:

Select A Size For Your Backyard Basketball Court

Depending on the available space you have in your yard, you will need to choose a basketball court that fits within the available space. For reference, a regulation NBA court is 50 feet by 94 feet. Most properties are not spacious enough for a court of these dimensions, so it is important to find court size appropriate for your space. Here are some court sizes that may be more suitable for your yard:

Full Court

Full courts don’t have to be NBA sized, so if you’re looking for some baseline to baseline action, a full-sized backyard basketball court is possible as long as your yard has enough space. Full courts allow for real play but also two separate hoops for children and teenagers/adults to play separately if needed.

Narrow Full Court

If you want the authentic feel a full-court provides but don’t have as much space to use, a narrow full court will do the trick. Typically, narrow full basketball courts are shorter in the middle and the sides of the court.

Half Court

If your yard doesn’t allow for a full basketball court, a half-court is the next best thing. Compared to full courts, they require less space, digging, surfacing, and one less basketball hoop. You can still play pick-up games and practice draining your three-pointers.

Narrow Half Court

As the name suggests, these courts are a bit narrower than a regular half court, but still have the core dimension of the ‘key’ and ‘paint’ areas, just a little shorter sizing to the half-court line and sidelines. If you have a smaller yard space, these are ideal.

Choose A Color Scheme For Your Court

The best thing about a custom basketball court? You can choose any colors you want! The colors from the court can be anything you want, from your family’s favorite colors to the colors of your favorite college or professional sports team. Are you a die-hard Celtics fan? Create a backyard basketball court in green, white, and black colors.

When designing your backyard basketball court, you will have the ability to choose the color of the main court, the lane, and the border. You can choose to match your court colors to your house, blend into the background landscape, or really go for that “WOW” factor.

Select Any Optional Accessories For Your Court

In addition to adding the appropriate number of basketball hoops (which depends on whether you have a full or half-sized court) there are numerous other accessories and features that can be added to your backyard sports court. Some other accessories you may be interested in adding to your backyard sports court may include:

  • Rebounders. Rebounders are a multi-functional training aid which allows the athletes with a realistic ball response and gives them the ability to work on passing and catching and shooting skills. Rebounders can also be used for other sports like tennis, volleyball, hockey, and soccer.
  • Ball Containment Fencing. Rather than having to chase balls that have flown off the court, placing fencing around the court will help keep the ball contained within the court space. Fencing is far more appealing than having netting around your court, plus it is more durable.
  • Lights. Remember when you were playing basketball outside as a kid, only to have the fun stopped once the sun went down? By adding basketball court lights, you can continue to use your court and play well into the evening and night.=
  • Multi-Court Attachments. If you plan on using your backyard sports court for multiple sports, there are a variety of attachments available to accommodate different sports. From hockey goals to tennis and volleyball nets, you can make your court adaptable to a variety of sports.

Backyard basketball court installation would not only create a space for your children to practice their dribbling, shooting, and passing skills and prepare them for the upcoming season during the school year, but it also creates a space for family-fun games and activities, and if you’ve played basketball, you know how much of a workout it can be — think of it as a new exercise to add to your routine! No doubt, a basketball court installation would bring the family together while encouraging healthier, more active lifestyles.

The Benefits of Having a Basketball Basketball Court

The summer season is the perfect time for basketball court installation. Whether you are interested in a half-court basketball court or multi-use sport court construction in your backyard, both offer incredible benefits that are often overlooked. If you need help convincing your significant other to let you install a backyard basketball court for you and your family, consider the following benefits of basketball court installation.

Encourages A Healthy Lifestyle For The Whole Family

Between the television, video games, and social media, it can be difficult to convince children to go outside and play these days. However, basketball is just one of those sports that seems to pull kids away from the electronics and out into the fresh air. Installing a backyard basketball court will certainly help keep the whole family active. While it depends on the person as well as the intensity, it is estimated that shooting hoops alone can burn around 300 calories an hour. Playing a half court game can burn around 550 calories in an hour, and stepping up to a full court game will burn around 740 calories an hour — not bad considering it is a fun sport!

Development of Important Skills

Practice makes perfect and having a backyard basketball court will let you and your family work on important skills and fundamentals, whether just for fun or for preparation of team try-outs during the upcoming school year. From left-handed layups to free throws, a backyard basketball court will make it easier for you and your family to develop and master ball handling, shooting, and passing skills.

Backyard Basketball Courts Are Versatile

Naturally, backyard basketball courts are used for, well, basketball. However, that is not the only sport or activity these sport courts are limited to. With the right court surfacing, your backyard sport court can be used for volleyball, badminton, and many other family-fun activities. Installing outdoor basketball court surfaces will teach kids how to work together as a team in many different sports, how to make new friends and improve their interpersonal skills, and how to play at a competitive level.

Increases The Value Of Your Home

While it certainly would be hard to leave a backyard basketball court behind, opportunities appear and require moving. While the cost of backyard basketball court installation can be expensive depending on the design and features implemented, it is a great investment for not only your family, but your property as well. When the time comes to sell your home, a backyard basketball court will make your listing stand out from the rest, potentially attracting families or more serious players that would benefit from it.

Enhances Your Backyard & Landscape

When working with a professional sport court contractors, your backyard basketball court can be designed to fit your lifestyle and enhance your yard’s landscaping by choosing the right colors and design features. Want to take it one step further? Add a custom logo from your favorite college or professional sports teams. For a finished look, artificial grass can be added around the court to achieve a more low-maintenance backyard. Another benefit is that, in addition to not having to mow as much grass, a backyard basketball court is easy to maintain and keep clean. Therefore, you won’t have nearly as much yard maintenance and landscaping work to do!
