Reasons Why You Should Install a Backyard Ice Rink This Fall

Although it is sad that the warm weather and summer months have passed, we can now look forward to hockey season! Celebrate the right way by having 360 Ice Rinks build and install a hockey rink in your backyard. Here are just some of the reasons why you should have an ice rink at home:

Improve Hockey and Skating Skills

There is no better way to improve your hockey skills and overall skating than practicing. Having an ice rink right in your backyard allows you and your family to spend time improving skating, shooting, stickhandling, and other aspects of the game of hockey. Shock your coaches, friends, and family with how much progress you have made by practicing regularly and increasing your time on the ice.

Increase Time with Loved Ones

Whether you are a big hockey family or are interested in learning how to skate, having a backyard hockey rink will increase the time you spend with your family and friends. Having a hockey rink is a great way to get your kids involved and out of their rooms this fall and winter in a fun and healthy way! At 360 Ice Rinks, we also work with each of our customers to make sure they are getting exactly what they want. One popular option is having a deck built near the rink so parents can watch their kids play!

Stay Active

Many people find it much harder to stay active and healthy throughout the colder months in New England. However, having a backyard ice rink will have you wanting to spend your days skating outside. Skating and playing hockey are activities that strengthen your whole body. Playing hockey improves metabolism, strengthens muscles throughout the body, improves the cardiovascular system, burns calories and fat, and more! So rather than sitting on the couch watching TV this winter, throw on some skates and start improving your health.

Residential & Commercial Hockey Rink Installation

How a Backyard Basketball Court Can Improve Your Game During This School Season

Are you prepared for this upcoming basketball season? Our sports court professionals can help improve your dribbling, shooting, and passing skills to impress your coaches and other players this coming season.

Ability to Practice at Your Convenience

The luxury of having a personal basketball court in your backyard allows you and your family members to practice whenever. There will be no need to wait for open courts or wait to see “who’s got next”! Whenever you have free time during the day or weekend, you can easily head to your backyard and start shooting around. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. The more you practice, the more your game will improve, just in time for your basketball season.

Improve Strength and Endurance

Increasing your opportunities to practice playing basketball by having a backyard basketball court can improve your stamina, hand-eye coordination, speed, ball control, overall strength, and more. Players can practice at their own pace and focus on areas they need to improve on. If you struggle with dribbling with your non-dominant hand, you can spend your time improving that area before your season starts. Having this extra practice time can help players identify and improve flaws in their game while also improving their overall endurance and strength.

Clear Your Head

A very critical part of a successful basketball player is mental strength. Many studies have shown that frequently working out and exercising will improve mental health. Exercising releases endorphins which are hormones that can improve self-esteem, boost your mood, increase concentration skills, enhance your performance, reduce stress, and more. All of these improvements that playing basketball in your backyard will bring can improve your overall game during your basketball season.

How A Backyard Sports Court Will Increase your Property Value

There are many remodeling and renovation projects that homeowners often do to increase the value of their homes, whether this is a new bathroom or a new addition to a house. While these are excellent ways to improve property value, other ways can hold more benefits in the long run. Installing a backyard sports court such as a basketball courttennis court, or multi-sports court will be an addition that you and your family can use for years while it also dramatically increases the value of your home.

Overall Good Investment

A backyard sports court is a luxurious home investment that will continue to rise in profit. Studies show that having a sports court will initially increase a property’s value anywhere between $10,000 to $20,000 and that will just increase over the lifetime of the home. Having a court in your backyard will provide not only a good real estate investment, but also provides a health and wellness initiative for you and your family. Additionally, your family will be able to exercise in the privacy of your own home versus using public courts and other public options.

Low Maintenance:

Another project that many homeowners do to increase their property value is to install a pool. Although pools can be a fun way to spend time with friends and family, they are very hard to keep clean and work properly. Pools require a lot of attention and money to keep them spotless and looking nice. Not to mention, in the winter months, they are not useable. A sports court will also bring the same amount of fun that families can enjoy past the summer months. Sports courts are also very low maintenance and durable throughout the harsh winter. The court material is antimicrobial, making them resilient to mold or dirt build-up.

Landscaping:

Landscaping a yard needs to be kept up regularly to keep a property looking in good shape. However, landscaping can be very time-consuming and extremely expensive. Having a backyard sports court such as a basketball or tennis court can remove some of that landscaping hassle. Our SportScapes experts will work with you to map out the perfect spot in your yard to install your custom court. Additionally, these courts can also be customized and designed the way you want so they will match your yard even better! Stop worrying about spending money on landscape maintenance and install a multi-purpose sports court that will bring long-lasting value and fun to your property and family.

How a Backyard Basketball Court Can Improve Health and Wellness Post-Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us a lot of important things. It caused people to start being more conscious of their health and wellness, both physically and mentally. It also taught us to spend time with our loved ones and to appreciate social interactions. An excellent way to achieve all these important things is by installing a basketball, tennis, or any other sports court right at home. Having a sports court installed at home will positively impact physical and mental health and allow for those social interactions. Learn about all the ways that an outdoor basketball court can help improve your health and wellness post-pandemic.

Physical Health

Basketball is a very intense game that requires a lot of focus, strength, and stamina. Having a basketball court right at home can help build lower and upper body strength over time while perfecting hand-eye coordination. Being active will also improve overall health, from improving respiratory to cardiovascular functions.

Mental Health

In addition to physical health benefits, being active also has a significant influence on mental health. Participation in physical activities such as basketball causes a release of a hormone called endorphins. Endorphins boost self-esteem, happiness and reduce stress. It is also shown that endorphins can help depression and anxiety. Take advantage of a backyard basketball court to improve your physical and mental health after the hardships of this pandemic.

Social Interactions

Being restricted with social interactions was very hard on everyone’s social life, especially children who need social interactions to achieve normal growth development and communication skills. With schools being shut down, remote learning, and social distancing, children could not have these regular social interactions with other children. Now that summer is here, and most people are vaccinated, it is more important than ever to increase those social interactions for your kids. Having a basketball court installed in your backyard is a fun and safe way for kids to play their favorite games, hang out with friends and make new ones. Sports courts can also double as tennis courts that will just increase the fun for your children!

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of stress and hardships to families across the world. Restore some of those hardships by having fun and spending time with family and friends. If you are interested in installing a sports court at home, contact 360 SportScapes and start focusing on your health and wellness!

Asphalt vs. Synthetic Basketball Courts

With summer being finally here, people are now able to have fun with their favorite hobbies outside again. Before grabbing your friends and a basketball, it is important to know what the pros and cons are of playing on different court materials. Certain materials can affect players’ health, physical ability and just the fun of the game!

Synthetic:

There are many pros that come with synthetic basketball courts. One of the biggest pros is they are softer and less damaging on the body when players fall. Because they are a softer material than concrete or asphalt, they act as a shock absorber which is crucial for long term knee and joint health. In addition to those benefits, synthetic courts do not attract the heat that asphalt does. Because asphalt is so dark it heats up very quickly in the summer months which can make playing very difficult and uncomfortable which is not something you have to worry about with synthetic courts. With synthetic courts, you also have the freedom to customize the color and size to build your dream basketball court.

Asphalt:

Asphalt basketball courts are very common to see in parks and outdoor community centers. Although asphalt courts are very prominent, they can cause a lot of wear and tear on players’ bodies. Basketball is a very high impact sport which causes a lot of falling throughout the game. Because asphalt is such a hard material, players can often injure themselves while falling. In addition, long-term playing on a hard material like asphalt can cause a condition called “jumper’s knee”. This occurs when there is repetitive jumping which results in stress on the player’s knees causing inflammation and deterioration of the patella tendon.

However, asphalt courts are not all bad. A big pro to asphalt basketball courts is that they are a less expensive option. Another pro is that they are very easy to maintain in all weather conditions which is great with temperamental New England weather. It is very easy to plow an asphalt court and not worry that you are permanently damaging it.

Take into account these pros and cons of different material courts before you start your basketball game. If you are a business or homeowner interested in installing a basketball court, contact 360 Sportscapes today!

Best Basketball Games for Your Kids & Entire Family

Summer weather is finally here and for all of our customers who have a basketball court installed at their home, that means the time is now to take advantage of your SportScape. There is nothing more fun than playing basketball games with your friends and family, but are you looking for a new game to play? Take a look below and maybe you’ll find a new game that you can try out!

1. Horse

Now, what kind of list would this be, if we didn’t mention Horse. A game you can play with 2 + people, it’s a classic game of making various shots around a court that your opponent has the chance to match. If you make your shot, your opponent has a chance to make it as well. If they make it, it’s their turn to test their skills. If they miss it, they get a letter, meaning an (H). So you keep playing until someone has accumulated H-O-R-S-E. The first one to accumulate H-O-R-S-E ends up conceding the match.

2. Knockout

Another absolute classic, knockout can be played with as many people as you want. You start by lining up your group of people in a single file line behind the free throw line. You also start with two basketballs and give them to the first two people. The way this works is the first person shoots a free throw and make or miss, tries to get the ball and put in the hoop as fast as possible. While the first person is trying to do this, as soon as they shoot the ball, if the second person scores before the first person, they knock the first person out of the game. As soon as someone makes a basket, they give the ball to the next person in line and they try to score as fast as they can. The game moves very fast and the last person standing is the winner!

3. Around the World

A great game that can be played with 2+ people. Think of this game like you are shooting from the three point contest locations at the NBA All Star Game. When a player makes a shot at each spot, they can move to the next spot. This continues until you miss and then the next player goes next to see how far they can go. The goal of the game is to make a shot at every location on your course (Around the World). You can technically choose any spot that is in your course, but the first person to make a basket at each location wins!

4. Twenty One

Probably the most active / competitive game on this list that can be played with 2+ people. The game starts with one person dribbling the ball outside the three point line and then trying to score. Everyone that doesn’t have the ball works to stop the person from scoring but everyone works alone and is not on a team. The player once behind the three point line can shoot at any time and once they score, they get a point. If they miss a shot, they can get their own rebound and shoot it but if they miss and someone else gets the rebound they must bring the ball behind the three point line to start their time trying to score. The first player to get to 21 wins the game.

We hope you enjoyed this list and have a great summer! If you would like to inquire about getting a basketball court installed at your home, please feel free to reach out! We are New England & Greater Naples, Florida’s leading basketball court installation company.

Why You Should Consider a Multi-Use Sport Court for your Backyard

Are you a homeowner that is looking to provide your children or extended family more fun when not working or in school? Maybe you are an athlete yourself and want to provide yourself and your loved ones an area to improve skills? If either of these applies to you, your family should consider the addition of a multi-use sports court for your backyard! As the leading expertin building and installing these types of courts, we wanted to provide our site visitors a resource regarding the advantages of having one built for your home!

Staying Fit and Building Athletic Skillset

Whether you are looking to stay fit or provide an opportunity for your children that play sports competitively…the installation of a multi-use sports court is proven to help improve skills in several ways. To start, you or your family will have unlimited and private access to an exceptional court anytime. From working on their basketball shot or backhand, access to train will never be the same with your own custom sports court.

Secondly, it is proven that athletes that play multiple sports as opposed to just focusing on one tend to perform better. The reason this occurs, especially in younger athletes, is because the act of playing two different sports works different muscle groups. It also gives athletes a better understanding of their body’s ability to move. One may be surprised to learn that the types of quick motions in tennis or pickleball easily translate to the basketball court and vice-versa. The ability to explore other sports also ensures athletes do not get worn out and breeds competitive nature.

Types of Sports You Can Play on a Multi-Use Court

Depending on your preferences and court size there are a wide variety of games and sports to play on a 360 SportScapes multi-use sports courts. When first setting up the court, we will inquire about the expected main use of the court. The two types of we usually see are Basketball and Tennis courts. Additional lines can then be added! Check out the wide variety of additional court lines we can easily add!

Backyard Surface for Parties, Events & Even Ice Rinks!

A backyard multi-use court also will provide your home with an exceptional outdoor event hosting space! Backyard Ice Hockey Rink Games for your Family

Are you considering building or contracting a company to build your family a backyard ice rink? If you are concerned that there are only a limited number of ways your rink will be used, that should be the least of your concern. Here at 360 SportScapes, we have installed hundreds of ice rinks for families across the East Coast. In addition to the exceptional games of pick-up hockey that are played on our rinks, look at some of the creative games people play on backyard ice rinks!

Broomball

Broomball is a great game played in gym classes across the US. Some adaptations of the game are played on a basketball court but those lucky enough with access to an ice rink can enjoy the game on ice! Broomball can be played with or without ice skates. Using a small rubber ball similar to a dodgeball and a broom, teams of 4 or 5 players each compete to push the ball into goals. Teams can elect to use a goalie or have all their players on the offensive. Look at this article outlining the rules.

Freeze Skate & Tag

Freeze Skate involves a DJ and a group of eager skaters! The perfect game for a parent watching from inside the warmth and comfort of their home! The DJ will play music (holiday-themed optional), which will prompt those playing to begin skating. When the music is paused, everyone must come to a freeze. Those who freeze make it to the next round. Those still moving are eliminated from the round.

Freeze tag differs from traditional freeze tag on land. In this version of the game, the ‘Freeze’ refers to the game being played on ice. Select someone to be ‘it’ and let the game of tag on ice begin!

Tic Tac Toe

This game is perfect for strong skaters that are also competitive. With either teams or in games of 1 on 1, a tic tac toe grid is set up on one end of the ice. This grid can be spray painted into the ice or even outlined with snow. Skaters race towards the grid with one game piece in their hand. The game pieces can be small towels, hockey pucks, or even shoes. Skaters then drop the piece in a spot then skate back to either grab another piece or tag their team member in to drop the next piece! Speed is the key to this game as there are no ‘turns’ unlike traditional tic tac toe.

Skate Races

Have a lot of speedy skaters on the ice? Create speed races for your family! If your children range in ages, create racing ‘handicaps’ to say, with slower skaters starting ahead of those faster to make the races more competitive.

Dodgeball

Ideally, this should be played with softer, foam-filled dodgeballs and if you are organizing this game, be sure players are on the same skate/ size level. Using the mid-line as a boundary for both teams, skaters pick up the balls and fire them towards each other to hit opponents. A hit opponent is considered out, and if you catch the ball thrown by your opponent, the thrower of the said ball is out.

Curling

360 SportScapes can add curling point zones directly into the ice providing you, your family, and neighborhood a competitive game that everyone can play. Never curled before? Play once and you will see why people dedicate themselves to achieving Olympic status in the sport!

Ice Rink Skating Skills Activities

Our rinks have also been used by families or individuals looking to improve their overall skating skills in general. This may be a hockey player performing drills to increase their speed skating forward or backward or a figure skater growing their repertoire.
